HOW A CHARGE AIR COOLER WORKS
Charge Air Coolers reduce the temperature of air passed through the turbocharger before it enters the engine. In order for the engine to perform optimally, air needs to be at a lower temperature before it passes through to the combustion process making it an essential component.
Technically speaking, a charge air cooler is a heat exchange device that is used with turbocharged and supercharged (forced induction) internal combustion engines to improve their volumetric efficiency through increasing the intake air-charge density through isochoric cooling. This decrease in intake air temperature provides a denser intake charge to the engine, allowing more air and fuel to be combusted per engine cycle and improving the output of the engine.
