REMAN FAN CLUTCHES FROM HORTON
Contrary to popular belief, a remanufactured or “reman” fan clutch does not mean a lower quality product. Choosing a Horton reman fan clutch offers multiple benefits. Horton reman fan clutches are often less expensive than rebuilding a fan clutch, offer easy installment and drop-in replacement for all major applications, and have a two-year warranty for line-haul applications.
Don't be folled with the misconception that choosing a reman fan clutch will get you a used product that doesn't last as long. While rebuilding a part fixes it at the point of failure, the reman process goes one step further and completely disassembles the part down to its individual components, assessing each one. Components that cannot be salvaged are replaced, and the core is remanufactured to be on the same level if not better than a new part.
Additionally, all Horton reman fan clutches are remanufactured to OE specs, offer credit for Horton cores or competitor cores, and can be easily upgraded into DM Advantage or two-speed remans.
HORTON VARIABLE SPEED FAN CLUTCHES
Variable fan clutches are typically viscous, meaning a fluid such as silicone gel is dispensed into the working chamber to engage the fan based on under-hood temperatures. A variable-speed fan and fan clutch operate based on the engine’s optimal running temperature, and when less cooling is needed, this type of clutch system operates at a low off-speed.
The low off-speed function of a variable fan clutch allows for less fuel consumption and faster warmups, improving overall efficiency. When more cooling is needed, variable-speed drives engage quickly to a higher speed and without added stress to engine, cooling, and supporting components.
Variable-speed fan clutches are maintenance-free with no liner and help OEMs meet Tier 4 requirements. With the capacity to perform at lower speeds and cycle less often, this type of clutch system also reduces fan abrasions from dirt, rocks, and other outside debris.
TWO-SPEED FAN CLUTCHES
In applications where it’s ideal for the fan to run more than 10 percent of the time, a two-speed fan clutch system may be more appropriate. Capable of going from a lower eddy current speed up to a higher, spring-actuated speed, this type of fan clutch tends to perform the best in the heavy-duty vocational market as well as some on-highway applications including garbage trucks, cement trucks, and dump trucks.
The two-speed fan clutch was designed to reduce the number of fan clutch engagements. This, in turn, improves fuel consumption, reduces fan noise, and increases the amount of available horsepower. Although typically more expensive than on/off clutches, two-speed fan clutches are preferred by many applications for their quick warm-ups in cold weather, less liner wear due to less cycling, and longer part life.
Featuring best-in-class performance and durability for hard-working applications that need it the most, the Horton two-speed fan clutch can be depended on, no matter where your journey takes you.
HORTON ON/OFF FAN CLUTCHES
As the name suggests, on/off fan clutches engage — or turn on — when the temperature of the engine achieves a set point. Once the engine is reduced to its optimal running temp, the clutch will disengage, or turn off. The on/off fan clutch is the simplest of the three types of Horton fan clutches and usually the least expensive.
Typically ideal for over the road and Class 5-8 trucks, it’s still important to do your homework when considering an on/off clutch for your application. When paired incorrectly with the wrong application, an on/off fan clutch can stay constantly engaged, thereby increasing fuel consumption and putting added stress on the engine. It can also increase fan noise.
For precise engine cooling when and where you need it, trust the Horton on/off fan clutch system to keep you going no matter where your application takes you.
HORTON FANS
A fan clutch system cannot work properly without a fan, and nobody knows engine cooling fans like Horton. Offering multiple blade varieties as well as both counterclockwise and clockwise motion, Horton fans pair seamlessly with Horton fan clutches to create a complete engine cooling system.
Fans by Horton are the standard equipment on a variety of heavy-duty, long-haul trucks as well as some medium-duty trucks as well such as refuse, panel, and utility trucks. Depending on your application, we have metal, plastic, and other material fans for the perfect pairing.
Trust Horton with all of your engine cooling fan system needs — fans, fan clutches, fan parts, fan repair kits, and more!
