If you’re like most truck owners or fleet managers, then you dream about parts that reduce fuel consumption, decrease noise, and have a long service life.
With over 65 years of fan clutch innovation expertise, Horton remains a trusted leader in uptime and performance standards in the commercial vehicle industry. Trust Horton for your engine cooling needs — remanufacturer clutches, 2 speed fan clutch, DM Advantage fan clutch, electromagnetic fan clutch, fans, conversion kits, rebuild and repair kits, solenoids and more.
Horton Two Speed Fan Clutch - DM Advantage
In applications where it’s ideal for the fan to run more than 10 percent of the time, a two-speed fan clutch system may be more appropriate. Capable of going from a lower eddy current speed up to a higher, spring-actuated speed, this type of fan clutch tends to perform the best in the heavy-duty vocational market as well as some on-highway applications including garbage trucks, cement trucks, and dump trucks.
The two-speed fan clutch was designed to reduce the number of fan clutch engagements. This, in turn, improves fuel consumption, reduces fan noise, and increases the amount of available horsepower. Although typically more expensive than on/off clutches, two-speed fan clutches are preferred by many applications for their quick warm-ups in cold weather, less liner wear due to less cycling, and longer part life.

Contrary to popular belief, a remanufactured or “reman” fan clutch does not mean a lower quality product. Choosing a Horton reman fan clutch offers multiple benefits. Horton reman fan clutches are often less expensive than rebuilding a fan clutch, offer easy installment and drop-in replacement for all major applications, and have a two-year warranty for line-haul applications. See additional sections below for more remanufactured clutches.
Additionally, all Horton reman fan clutches are remanufactured to OE specs, offer credit for Horton cores or competitor cores, and can be easily upgraded into DM Advantage or two-speed remans.
Horton Electromagnetic Fan Clutch
Through electric current to a coil within the clutch a magnetic field is created causing the armature and rotor to make contact and engage.
As the name suggests, on/off fan clutches engage — or turn on — when the temperature of the engine achieves a set point. Once the engine is reduced to its optimal running temp, the clutch will disengage, or turn off. The on/off fan clutch is the simplest of the three types of Horton fan clutches and usually the least expensive.
Typically ideal for over the road and Class 5-8 trucks, it’s still important to do your homework when considering an on/off clutch for your application. When paired incorrectly with the wrong application, an on/off fan clutch can stay constantly engaged, thereby increasing fuel consumption and putting added stress on the engine. It can also increase fan noise.
For precise engine cooling when and where you need it, trust the Horton on/off fan clutch system to keep you going no matter where your application takes you.
Horton Fans
A fan clutch system cannot work properly without a fan, and nobody knows engine cooling fans like Horton. Offering multiple blade varieties as well as both counterclockwise and clockwise motion, Horton fans pair seamlessly with Horton fan clutches to create a complete engine cooling system.
Fans by Horton are the standard equipment on a variety of heavy-duty, long-haul trucks as well as some medium-duty trucks as well such as refuse, panel, and utility trucks. Depending on your application, we have metal, plastic, and other material fans for the perfect pairing.
