Spring brakes and their subsequent parts are generally reserved for the rear axle of the vehicle. Each spring brake is built with two different chambers with two different purposes. The service chamber, like any other brake chamber, is used to push the compressed air through the brake system to apply enough force to stop the brakes. However, spring brakes also contain a piggyback chamber that applies the emergency/parking brakes. Its stroke size comes in at 2.5 in. and it is considered a standard stroke spring brake chamber.
