The Hard Reality of Trucking and Coronavirus
It's no secret that truckers have always been an essential part of America's backbone, and that fact has been further emphasized with the steady spread of COVID-19 across the United States. The trucking industry has been a critical part of keeping states sufficiently stocked with paper products, groceries, PPE, and other essential goods directly related to Coronavirus relief.
But although the 3.5 million professional truckers in this country have been working steadily amid possible virus exposure, multiple rules and regulations changes, uncertain availability of meals and rest stops, and other obstacles, more resources are pulling together to make sure truckers are taken care of while the U.S. continues to battle the virus.
FMCSA to Distribute 1 Million Masks to Truckers
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recently announced an initiative to provide 1 million free masks to truckers nationwide.
"FMCSA has been working with states, industry stakeholders and motor carriers to distribute 1 million protective face masks for truckers, which were provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency," the agency wrote in a statement.
The list of distribution locations continues to expand, with dates and sites currently set up throughout Arkansas, California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, New York, and Texas. Dates and locations for mask hand-outs can be found on the FMCSA website. The administration is also working to provide widespread testing for truckers in high-volume areas.
