OE vs OEM
The trucking industry throws out so many abbreviated terms for customers to figure out that it's no wonder why they get confused. When asking the question "Are OE parts the same as OEM?," The short answer is no. We'll give you the long answer including whether OEM parts are the same as aftermarket truck parts and the difference between reman and rebuilt parts. Don't worry, we've got you covered.
What are OE Parts?
"OE" stands for original equipment. These parts are the originals found in the vehicle during factory assembly. These parts are made and placed by the manufacturer in the factory. Sometimes, customers see the words "genuine OE" on parts. This means that the truck part is genuinely a factory fitted product.
What are OEM Parts?
There is a misconception that OEM parts are fake, but this is far from the truth. OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer meaning that while these parts may not be the original ones placed into the vehicle from the factory, they are still from the manufacturer. The manufacturer may design specific parts, or add-ons for a vehicle that are classified as OEM.
So, They Are Not the Same?
Correct. They are both from the manufacturer, but OE are the original parts put into a vehicle (first round parts) whereas anything else by the manufacturer is not.
Are OEM the Same as Aftermarket?
Aftermarket truck parts, or generic truck parts, are not made by the manufacturer. Instead, they are made by another parts company and are the replacement to the original designed part(s). These parts are not the same as reman parts. Remanufactured products are used OEM parts that have been stripped down and cleaned for resell. Aftermarket parts are common in the automotive industry and are the same fit, form and function of the original spec items. Aftermarket truck parts come with warranties just like OEM products and are made from quality materials for high performance.
Which is Best: OE, OEM or Aftermarket?
We won't steer you away from one type over another, butif you are against trying aftermarket truck parts, think again. Aftermarket parts are sometimes cheaper than the original branded part and come with nice warranties. Aftermarket parts may be what is in-stock, too, and since the supply chain issues continue, customers may not be able to find the original part they want – but they'll always be able to get the part they need with aftermarket parts.
